Acquired from a vide maison in Les Riceys in the Champagne region, these are handmade wooden stools with three turned bobbin legs. Not a pair as they differ in size and the larger has a cross brace to the legs, they do make an attractive set in a matching arts and crafts style.

TWO VINTAGE FRENCH BOBBIN LEG STOOLS, CRICKET STOOLS, WOODEN TRIPOD DEMI LUNE PLANT STANDS, SIDE TABLES 46 & 31cm tall - 1940s

Acquired from a vide maison in Les Riceys in the Champagne region, these are handmade wooden stools with three turned bobbin legs.

Not a pair as they differ in size and the larger has a cross brace to the legs, they do make an attractive set in a matching arts and crafts style.

Dating to around the 1940s they’re now worn, with an attractive patina, but still sound and makes a great decorative display pieces, side tables, plant stands…

In good vintage condition with wear and knocks, but no damage - please examine photographs carefully for condition.

The photos best show the condition of these.

Made from a hardwood, I believe oak, which is heavily varnished but now worn.

They were dirty on acquisition and have since had a clean.

The seat is a single piece cut in a demi lune, or semi circle, and is worn but sound.

Structurally solid and I have sat on them but probably no longer destined to be used as a seat.

The legs are glued I think, have very little to no movement, and are strong.

They are well turned and have wear but stand reasonably straight.

I can find no maker’s mark.

Measures approximately:

46 cm tall,

Seat 29x20 cm, 2.5 cm thick,

Leg span - 36 cm rear, 31 cm back to front edge,

31 cm tall,

Seat 28x19 cm, 2 cm thick,

Leg span - 29 cm rear, 23 cm back to front edge,

Weigh about 2.9 kg in total.
