Victorian 'Japanese Style' Bamboo & Rattan Bedroom Suite A rare three piece Victorian ‘Japanese’ bamboo and rattan bedroom suite dating to circa 1890. Comprising a wardrobe, dressing table and marble topped washstand each features a rising sun design to the top, bamboo frames and rattan panels. The wardrobe has a single mirror door which opens to reveal a hanging rail and brass hooks above a base door and bamboo feet, the dressing table has a bamboo framed mirror with two red, black & gilt lacquered shelves above two drawers whilst the washstand has a black & white veined marble top with green & white tiles depicting iris above a cupboard and open shelf, each with embossed leather paper coverings to the sides.This beautiful Eastern Oriental inspired bedroom suite is in very good condition and benefits from being much lighter than traditional furniture. There are marks and wear to the dressing table shelves and a small area of rattan below, and there are marks and wear to the dressing table marble.Whilst bamboo and simulated bamboo furniture had been popular in earlier time periods it was during the Aesthetic period in the late 19th century that large quantities of exotic oriental inspired bamboo furniture began to be produced in Britain. With Christopher Dresser and E. W. Important Note About Antiques
Antiques have long histories of daily use and as such, over time they can gain minor scratches, marks, knocks, shrinkage splits, signs of old woodworm, lifts or losses to any veneer, which along with daily care and years of polishing go together to create individual character and patina. We describe any flaws in the items that fall outside of this bracket but cannot describe each of these marks separately. If anything, we tend to be over critical of items but if you are not sure please do not buy without clarifying or take the view that the only way to have it absolutely perfect is to have it fully and comprehensively restored.
Payment
Preferred payment method is bank transfer, we also accept payment by cheque, paypal and bankers draft. We cannot accept payment over the telephone.
Delivery Detail
You can arrange your own collection or the item can be delivered by carrier to UK mainland destinations south of Perth (Scotland)*. Deliveries are usually within 31 days of payment and the delivery cost is based on 1 man who will deliver to your ground floor main door only. If you are purchasing something large or heavy you must have someone available to help the driver unload and get it to your door. Discounts can be made for the delivery of multiple items to the same address.
Please note that the carrier we use is a small one van company experienced in moving antique furniture. It is not usually possible for them to give you a delivery date until they have built up enough deliveries to visit your region. Once your item has been collected we ask the carrier to contact you directly regarding delivery and we will also pass the carriers contact details to you so you can contact them if required.
*Separate quotes will be required for deliveries north of Perth, north and west of Loch Lomond and West of Taunton.
