Stunning Serpentine/Bow Fronted Triple Compactum Edwardian Burr Walnut Wardrobe
Antique Edwardian Burr Walnut Triple Wardrobe and dating from around 1930. Constructed from quality Burr walnut it has a moulded caddy cornice top with three Bow/Serpentine Burr walnut doors with a moulded and cross banded edge and brass handles.
Internally to L/H/S/F and the centre is a full length hanging rail XXXXXXXXX and to the other side you will find three pull out trays/Shelves and three mahogany lined drawers with brass handles. It stands on a plinth base on short cabriole legs and separates for ease of transport.
This triple wardrobe is wonderful. It dates to the 1930s and is high end Art Deco in design, it would have cost an absolute fortune when it was first new in pre war Britain.
Just look at the shape of this wardrobe. The front is serpentine, but wow, how it is serpentined! The two outside doors are convex and the central door is concave. The doors have opulent figured walnut fronts . The wardrobe stands on a shaped base.
Overall it's in good cosmetic condition with minor signs of age related wear. A few things I noticed that are worth mentioning however are that the doors fit very snuggly to the base as as such have caused some wear on the internal base corners, you can also feel resistance when opening and closing. It may simply need the hinges adjusting or you may need to plain a little off the bottom of the doors or base to ensure smooth opening. Also worth pointing out is that top door sliding thing on the R/H/S/F has broken off. It's the mechanism that stops the door from opening too wide. I have the piece and are sure it can be replaced. Another thing I noticed are that I have a feeling the two door handles on the outer doors have been added at a later date as the locks have been removed and the echelons are a little loose. If I was being picky then the feet have a few knocks, signs of wear on them, probably from vacuuming. None of these things prevent the wardrobe from functioning as it should, just worth mentioning. Please check my photos carefully.
Make no mistake though this is a stunning wardrobe, one of the nicest I have ever come across. It perfect to use as it is, good to go with ample storage.
