Wealth Bestowing Six-Armed Form

Circa: 14th century Yuan or earlier

H 8 in (20cm), W 4.5 in (11.5cm), D 2.25 in (5.5cm)

Condition: Very Good!

White Mahakala, the God of Wealth in benevolent form. Bedecked with three eyes, six arms, main right hand holding a conch, in his upper right hand a chopper, and in the lower hand a drum; his central left-hand holds a kapala (skull bowl); two lower left hands appearing to be holding a wish-fulfilling cintamani and a bell; instead of the khatvanga and vajra commonly represented in Tibetan tradition. 

He is seen here standing in militant pose over the corpses of Ganapati and Vinayaka, the Gods of Obstacle.

Denoting supreme wisdom is above both samsara and nirvana

Mounting on an oval-shaped lotus pedestal, the small statue is heavily cast in two pieces, hand-carved and chased with fine motifs.

With all details conforming to the early Buddhist sculptural art in Chinese tradition, it appears to have no Tibetan influences. Attributed to early 18th century
