Quality English Triple Pad Verge Fusee Bracket Clock
A nice early English mahogany triple pad verge bracket clock measuring 19in tall (handle down) x 12.5in wide x 8in deep. This much sort after clock has a silvered dial which is engraved and signed 'Thos Brown Birmingham'. It is very rare to find a bracket clock with Birmingham on it, especially this early. Most verge clocks were converted to anchor with some later converted back to verge This one look original .but the rod might have been changed the Bob is original . The back plate has some very fine engraving with flowers, scrolls and leaves etc. The brackets are also engraved.
The pillars are good as you would expect. This bell striking movement is in fine condition for a clock over 200 years old. This one I would date at approx. 1780 to 1800 The brass work to the case all looks original including the pads, four bracket feet and handle all with their original gilding and would clean up if required. The locks for the front and rear doors are there but neither has a key, the winding key is present however. The dial has nice fine hands along with a Strike/Silent in the arch and it has its Calendar ring . The case has the odd loss to veneer and splits as you would expect for a clock of this age. The patina of the case is a delightful light chocolate sleepy colour. It is unpolished, which is how I like it, or alternatively you could re-polish it to a high sheen.
Bracket clocks of this type, especially verge's are extremely rare. This particular clock is sold as seen, not working for a full restoration/repair only with no guarantees or returns. A super quality project for an experienced restorer.
