You are bidding on a brightly colored weaving with mythological depictions of birds
This weaving work is the reason why I developed such a great passion for pre-Columbian textiles.
The illustration shows colorful birds in different colors, so a bird has up to 4 different colors, which increases the weaving effort enormously and the weaver must have a good eye for details and color combinations. The depictions of the birds are finely stylized with features that indicate young parrots. The South American cultures also worshiped the parrot, seeing it as a divine relative and clever companion. Parrot mummies were not uncommon either. A large proportion of decorative feathers came from these birds. The most commonly depicted bird pottery figurines of the Moche culture are parrots. It's easy to see why the weaver chose these different eye-catching colors for the same depiction of the bird: the stunning colors of a parrot in the desert or in the rainforest will always stick in your mind and never be forgotten. Also known was the prudence and the ability to learn, which seemed simply human and divine. The strong beak and the large feet, which the parrot skillfully uses, are evident in the textile. As a burial object, it should be young birds that accompany the owner, as the textile represents. The birds are framed by rows of meanders that run into one another, which represented “the” fertility symbol of ancient cultures and could be found almost everywhere. In descriptions it is often explained as a highly stylized mixture of waves, Andean stairs and snakes. Here they form a duality between light red and dark red meanders in an endless pattern. Wide fringes form the lower end. The bird attached to the side is from ancient times and not modern.
After so many centuries, the colors of the textile still have a power and vibrancy, which impresses those that were only produced by natural colors. The yellow is almost golden when woven and moving in the wind it was very exceptionally bright. Due to the quality and charisma, one can speak of the best form of manual weaving. Not only were images woven here, but stories and mythologies were passed on.
For me, such wonderful representations are one of the highest achievements of the ancient pre-Columbian cultures and always very exciting! In contrast to ceramics, the effort for such a weaving work in pure manual work can hardly be described.
The red background and the dark black frame are optimally adapted to the charisma of the textile. Unpack, hang up, present and enjoy...
