Metropolitan Drinking Fountain and Cattle Trough Association Bronze Plaque & Frame.

I am pretty sure this is an original plaque, the shape pretty much rectangular, the sides slightly tapering in towards the top.

The outer frame measures roughly 21.5cm/8.4" in height,  the length across the base is about 19.3cm/7.55", the length across the top about 18.2cm/7.15".

The edge depth is roughly 3cm/1.15".

It weighs 3.084kg.

The frame is bronze in colour, the plaque a deep dark green with the raised text bronze, and as will be seen in the photos in exceptionally tidy condition

'The Metropolitan Drinking Fountain and Cattle Trough Association was an association set up in London by Samuel Gurney, a member of Parliament and philanthropist, and Edward Thomas Wakefield, a barrister, in 1859 to provide free drinking water.

Originally called the Metropolitan Free Drinking Fountain Association it changed its name to include cattle troughs in 1867, to also support animal welfare'.

This example has a key-holed central plaque, as with all examples I have seen, and gives the address '426 Lewisham High St. London S.E.13' underneath the association details.

As mentioned, condition is exceptionally good, especially given the fact this probably dates back to 1929, though I would ask that you check the photos for a better idea and a closer overall inspection.

It is an exceptionally rare item to come up for sale, especially given its historical and social history, so please do check all the photos carefully.

All examples I have come across are still in situ. and I would imagine have become some form of historical landmarks.
