A very nice Japanese Kendi decorated in underglaze blue The globular body painted with a phoenix or peacock with fanned tail, all amongst scrolling motifs with are repeated on the everted lip. the body further decorated with 2 large flowers the neck decorated with stylised flowers. 21.5 cm high approx Very good condition, the spout is chipped a similar Kendi is illustrated in the catalogue of the Princesshof Museum by the Dutch association of Friends of ceramic ( loosely translated ) 101/102 photos 6-7 another is illustrated in Catalogue of oriental Ceramic and Works of Art by Solving and Anita Gray page 92 item 133
