Superb English Mahogany Verge Bracket Clock by London Maker John Davidge c.1780This is a magnificent genuine Georgian Bracket Clock, and was made during the reign of George III. These clocks have been in great demand over the past few years and it is considered to be an excellent investment. Full details as follows:Well known maker is recorded in the British Clockmakers & Watchmakers Apprentice Records. John Davidge was a Master of the Clockmakers Company at St. Lukes, London in 1772 and moved to St. Botolphs, Aldersgate, London by 1775. James Gaze, later a well known maker, was his apprentice for 5 years from 1775.Figured mahogany case with the desirable "Bell Top" surmounted by a cast brass carrying handle, brass slip frame around the front door and incorporates fretwork spandrels and cast brass ogee bracket feet.8 Day double fusee movement retaining its original VERGE escapement. Striking the hours on a bell, repeater pull cord.Excellent engraved backplate.Silvered dial correctly signed by the maker.Strike/Silent control.Dimensions: Height 19ins (21ins with handle raised), depth 7.5 ins.Can be viewed at DT9 4PW near Sherborne, Dorset subject to Covid protocol and correct social distancing.As background I have been a collector for around 40 years and refresh my collection from time to time.
