This auction is for a rare Egyption Revival Gilt metal mantle or table clock that dates from the 19th century.
The case stands at approximate 20 inches tall.
The French movement strikes on the half and full hours respectively.
This clock has just been fully serviced by my horologist.
Description: The case
There are very unusual and incised hieroglyphic inscriptions with Egyptian figures. The Goddess style figure sits upon an imposing Pharaoh’s head. Above the number 12 on the dial you will see a Phoenix with outset wings.
Flanking either side of this highly elaborate case are a pair of Tutankhamen entombed mummies - as shown in photos.
I have seen many of these Egyption Revival style clocks, but never one with so much attention to detail - it really is quite magnificent, still retaining it’s aged patination.
This clock looks very impressive in real life.
