Antique Bolivian Manta A Manta can be described as a rug, shawl or blanket. When this was bought in La Paz Bolivia about 35 years ago, I was told it was a Shaman’s blanket for wrapping his medicinal herbs in. It is old, probably early 20th century and has used vegetable dyes for the dyeing of the fibres which are most probably spun from llama or alpaca wool. The Manta is highly decorative in earthy and red tones and can be used as a throw for a chair or sofa or as a floor rug. Size is approximately 78x96cms/31"x38".
