Condition | Antique Bisque Japanese 'Nodder' Lady Figurine.Very nice bisque porcelain 'Nodder' figurine of what I believe is a Japanese lady kneeling and holding a fan.She was originally probably one of a pair consisting of a man & woman and could date to as early as the mid 19th century.With the head in place she is about 5" tall.The head and neck measures about 4" in a fairly solid finger like design, and has an old rusted removable pin.She is entirely hand painted in what I would say looks to be ' Japanese Satsuma' style.Inside she there is a very small hand written 'red 'S' like mark.Condition is generally good, nods really well, some nibbles to the back of the neck as shown, could probably do with a clean.I have done a fair amount of research and actually found one almost identical.Most are marked as 'German Bisque Chinese Nodders', which is quite possibly correct, though to me this particular example would seem Japanese if I hadn't read otherwise, except possibly for the face, which |
