ThisFrench gilt Ciel de Lit bed canopy, or corona dates from the last half of the19th Century. Hand crafted in the Rococo style of Louis XV, this beautifulpiece will make bedtime even more indulgent.

Thereeded body of the frame is made from gilt brass cast into an extendedsemi-circular ring and decorated to the centre and sides with applied giltbrass rocailles. These intricate scrolling shell shape motifs are adorned withtrailing leaves and tendrils and make this piece the crowning touch for anybed.

Theunderside of the canopy is lined in rich red cotton arranged into gathers.

Theplayful opulence of Rococo strongly appealed to fashionable society during thesecond half of the 19th Century.
