Ni-MH batteries are far superior to Ni-Cd batteries as Ni-Cd is older technology and the batteries do not survive for the same number of charge and discharge cycles as Ni-MH do. Ni-Cd batteries also develop a "memory effect" meaning if you continually charge them without them being fully discharged then they develop a memory of this and you no longer get the full operational capacity of the battery and reduced runtime. Ni-MH batteries do not suffer from this memory capacity in the way Ni-Cd ones do which is why Ni-MH are well suited to solar lights as the battery is charged every day regardless of how much or little it has been used the previous night. All batteries have a working life span and eventually stop but Ni-MH consistently out performs Ni-Cd in testing which is why they cost more to buy from the manufacturers. Please don't be fooled by sellers claiming "Ni-Cd battery (the very latest type)" etc etc, who want to charge the same prices as Ni-MH, this is simply marketing rubbish which is not true.
